WATCH | How to save lives while driving in UAE
Abu Dhabi Police are calling on all motorists to prioritise emergency vehicles by giving way immediately when ambulances, police cars, or fire engines approach.
This simple act can make a life-saving difference by ensuring emergency responders reach accident scenes without delay.
In 2024 alone, 325 drivers across the UAE were fined for obstructing emergency vehicles. Violations were highest in Dubai with 160 cases, followed by Abu Dhabi with 107, and smaller numbers across other emirates.
Motorists who fail to comply face a Dh3,000 fine, a 30-day vehicle impoundment, and six traffic points. In addition, those found obstructing rescue operations during emergencies, disasters, or adverse weather conditions may be penalised with a Dh1,000 fine, four traffic points, and 60-day vehicle confiscation.
Authorities are increasing awareness efforts through public campaigns, road safety events, and educational sessions aimed at reinforcing the importance of giving way. Business owners are also being reminded to maintain clear access routes for emergency services, with violations carrying penalties of up to Dh50,000.
Don’t block the way – make space, save lives.
